My journey working in the mental health field began when I completed the Addicition Counselor Education Program and started working at McLean Hospital at the inpatient detox unit. I loved my job there but knew I needed more education. I graduated from Salem State University with a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling & School Adjustment Counseling and was offered a position as a family and individual therapist at a local non-profit once I completed my internship.
I originally envisioned myself working with individuals but once I began working with families I realized how important it is for me to practice from a systemic lens. Working with families enriched my understanding of individual and couples work as well. I have experience working with people in all different phases of life from adolescents, families with young children, adult children, young adults and older adults. In addition to traditional therapy, I also facilitate activity groups for adolescents.
My solution-focused approach is one based in open, honest communication. I also attend traingings frequently, as I love engaging with collegues and always want to learn more. Last year, I completed the nine month Intensive Certificate Program in Couple and Family Systems Therapies at Therapy Training Boston. I have attended training and workshops in narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, complex trauma, itrafamilial sexual abuse, parenting work, and attend weekly consultation groups.
